Introduction
On today’s episode of “Why is this Energy Drink Nostalgic for Jared?”
We’ve got - random nostalgia because I drink this on road trips sometimes! Seriously, I started drinking these when they came out in ~2014 almost exclusively for long car rides and it’s still my go-to in that situation. Don’t get me wrong, there’s times I’m driving and I need a Monster or Bang energy to get me from point A to point B without falling asleep. But I feel like as a passenger or copilot, sometimes you want a hydrating boost without aggressively drinking 300mg of caffeine and crashing as soon as you get to your destination.
This flavor happens to be my favorite, so I hope Mountain Dew keeps it around if only just for me and my road trips.
Taste
9
The taste of this drink is it’s selling point. It’s light & crisp, has the typical carbonation of a soda (thanks Mountain Dew), and makes you feel like you’re getting hydrated with coconut water undertones and a smooth tropical fruit flavor. You would think that pineapple, orange, mango, coconut water, and mountain dew would be overwhelming; but it really comes together perfectly in this drink.
Appearance
5.5
5.5 because I feel like it’s an average looking can, but +.5 for some clean lines and pandering to me by putting “Kick” on the front.
Pours out light orange-ish with medium carbonation.
Kick
4
90mg of caffeine for a 16oz can. Not bad.
Conclusion
Great taste and the caffeine content of a small cup of coffee combine for the perfect road trip beverage and/or midday pick me up.
