I'm going to be 100% honest, I went into my local Total Wine planning to get the most interesting seltzer I could find. Three Birds's case design didn't jump out visually, but something about it spoke to me just asking to be reviewed. Maybe it was the $13 price tag.
The Three Bird Hard Seltzer website is just like the drink: nice and simple. They solicit you to "join the flock" with their gluten-free, 5% ABV, seltzer with the natural favors of Raspberry, Mango, Lime, and Cucumber. From their site FAQ, Three Bird can be found at 200+ Total Wine stores across 24 states. If there isn't a store near you, they say you can use this to order online and have it shipped.
I drank all 4 flavors in the span of about an hour to really get the full Three Bird experience. So without further adieu, let's get into the review.
Really good flavor. I was expecting a drop off in quality because of the price, but it tastes almost identical to mango white claw. Which is a win for me at $13/pack. Only difference is the mango is slightly sweeter, which I like. Maybe a bit less carbonated as well.
Also impressed by lime. Super smooth mouth feel. I expected the white claw clone on this one but actually really dislike White Claw Lime - this one is way better.
Wow. Actually tastes like cucumber, I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting it. Refreshing, but I'm not a huge cucumber guy. If you love cucumber this could be elite.
Really nice balance between sweetness and carbonation. It’s full raspberry and tastes like it.
If you've read my reviews before, you'll know I usually err on the side of using more words than I need to. I was especially concise with Three Bird for 2 reasons:
The flavors in the variety pack are straightforward. They all taste as advertised, with very few surprises. The predictability is a good thing, in my opinion.
I gave 1 of each flavor to my colleague Matt to try, and then took the rest of the case with me and drank them all at a party over the course of a couple hours. No joke, I would take a sip of each drink for the first time. Excuse myself from whatever conversation or shenanigan I was engaged in at the moment, and write down a note for each.
While the scenario in which I wrote these reviews could be portrayed negatively, I like to think it's an asset to the people. I can confirm with 100% certainty that Three Bird Hard Seltzer is day-drink ready, and as such I fully endorse it as a budget-friendly, party-perfect beverage.
